Cherokee NJROTC places third in regional drill competition

ROGERSVILLE — The Cherokee High School NJROTC drill team earned a third place overall finish in the recent Appalachian Region JROTC Drill Competition at Science Hill High School.

Twelve schools were divided into the “large school” and “small school” divisions, and Cherokee competed in multiple events in the large school division.

Cherokee’s dual exhibition team consisting of Travis Baxley and Zach Eisenhuth finished in third place.

The first year unarmed squad commanded by Shannah Gray finished second.

The first year armed squad commanded by Jessica Rawlings placed third, as did the unarmed squad commanded by Gabe Lyons.

The armed squad commanded by Brandon Yates earned third place, and the advanced color guard commanded by Jewel MacGregor earned third place.

Cherokee’s unarmed platoon commanded by Elizabeth Massengill Earned second place.

Cherokee NJROTC finished third Place Overall in what CHS Senior Naval Science instructor Clyde Shumate describerd as a “highly competitive Drill competition”.
