BLOUNTVILLE — Police say they have arrested a man who broke into a used car dealer’s office, then stole a van that was for sale on the lot.

According to a press release from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred Monday at Hagy’s Auto Sales, located at 5453 Fort Henry Drive. A review of surveillance footage revealed a burglary at the business and a suspect stealing a 2003 Dodge Caravan.

On Wednesday, a deputy on patrol in Blountville spotted the stolen van. The officer conducted a traffic stop and found the driver to be Jonathan McClure, 34, Kingsport, who allegedly matched the man seen in the footage from Hagy’s.

McClure was arrested and charged with burglary, theft over $1,000 and theft under $1,000. He was also charged with driving on a revoked or suspended license and possession of Schedule III narcotics.

McClure’s bond was set at $7,500. However, he had three outstanding violation of probation warrants, along with a warrant for failing to report to jail. One of those warrants was issued with no bond, so McClure remains incarcerated.
