KINGSPORT — Police are searching for a man who unsuccessfully tried to rob a gas station while wearing underwear on his head as a mask but after being turned away claimed, "This is stupid," according to a press release.

Around midnight on Wednesday, an unidentified white male entered Zoomerz gas station and convenience store on Memorial Boulevard in Kingsport.

In order to conceal his identity, the man cut eye holes into a pair of underwear in an attempt at making a mask. The suspect demanded money and pretended to have a gun by keeping his right hand behind his back while threatening, "Don't make me pull it out."

He first demanded cash, but when the clerk declined, the suspect then reportedly demanded cigarettes. He was turned down again and left in frustration after proclaiming, "This is stupid," according to the release.

The entire incident was captured on the store’s surveillance video. The video and still photos are included with this article.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to contact detectives at the KPD Criminal Investigation Division at (423) 229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. Tips can also be submitted anonymously online at http://police.KingsportTN.gov/Citizen_Feedback.
